Richard Hatch
Partner
Richard believes in fostering client relationships and drives the firm’s related values, manifesting in sharing the objectives of a client, being considered part of a client’s team and a trusted principal adviser (including building other experts around a client where required), and collegiality. He holds various related governance roles/trusteeships.
He is a property, and banking and finance expert, with a general commercial practice also, acting for a range of clients, from major retail banks to large family businesses to high net-worth individuals, and to multi-jurisdictional clients, including via our Interlex international legal network. That practice covers a spectrum of work, from property development, commercial leasing, construction and compulsory acquisition, to front-end financing arrangements and compliance through to recoveries, to private business transactions, and to trading and charitable trusts.
Richard leads the important and long-standing relationship Shieff Angland has with Property Council New Zealand.
Balance is encouraged at the firm as part of our culture, and is exemplified by the partners – Richard is the King’s College Pasifika Advisory Committee chair-assistant. This is personally important to him, in helping ensure Pasifika students enjoy the holistic offering of schooling, and because he has a vested interest, being of Fijian descent.
He was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 1997, and as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2003.
